About Department of Management Studies - IIT Delhi
History and Background
The Department of Management Studies is a department of IIT Delhi. It is not a second IIT and it does not have a separate campus. It sits on the IIT Delhi campus at Vishwakarma Bhavan, Saheed Jeet Singh Marg, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016. Website: https://dms.iitd.ac.in/ The department traces the idea to 1963. An M.Tech in Management Systems began in the mid-1970s in the School of Systems Studies. The Centre for Management Studies followed. In 1993 the Department of Management Studies was created by an amendment to the IIT Delhi statutes, with approval in June 1993 through the Visitor. In 1997 the department moved from the M.Tech format to MBA programmes. It now runs a two-year full-time MBA, both general and with a focus on Telecommunication Systems Management, and a three-year part-time MBA with a focus on Technology Management. The MBA (Telecom) track started in 2000. A minor area in management for B.Tech students of IIT Delhi started in 2010; that minor is for IIT Delhi engineering students, not a separate B.Tech college. Full-time MBA admission, as the department describes it, uses CAT score, group discussion and interview. Engineering and science degrees of IIT Delhi are offered by other departments. They are not programmes of this department.
