History and Background
About Department of Business Management (Osmania University), Hyderabad The Department of Business Management at Osmania University was set up in 1962, which makes it one of the oldest management schools in the country. It works from the university's main campus in Hyderabad as part of the University College of Commerce and Business Management, and was created as a separate unit so that its faculty could start new programmes on their own. Osmania University itself was founded on 26 April 1917 by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. It is a large multi-faculty university with a campus of about 1,600 acres and more than 1,000 affiliated colleges across Telangana, so MBA students here study inside a full university setting with access to its libraries and other departments. The main course is the full-time two-year MBA, with specialisation choices in: Finance Human Resources Marketing Systems and Information Technology Technology Management The department also teaches outside the campus. It runs an MMS and M.Phil for senior armed forces officers at the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad, and a Master's in Hospital Management in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals and Owaisi Hospital. MBA admission at Osmania University is through TS ICET, the state-wide entrance test for management courses, and only top rankers get seats, which keeps the batch competitive. The department has also featured in the Times B-school rankings.
