About DAV College - Muzaffarnagar
History and Background
About DAV College, Muzaffarnagar DAV College in Muzaffarnagar is managed by the Arya Vidhya Sabha, a society registered in 1918. The Sabha moved into higher education by opening degree classes at the college in 1950, followed by postgraduate classes in 1958. The college is on Arya Samaj Road in the city and is a grant-in-aid institution, with newer self-financing courses added over the years. The college has a long list of faculty who went on to senior posts. Former principal Prof. Sheetal Prasad became Vice-Chancellor of Agra University, Dr B.K. Tyagi served on the U.P. Higher Education Service Commission and as Pro Vice-Chancellor of CCS University, Meerut, and faculty member Prof. S.V.S. Rana became Vice-Chancellor of Bundelkhand University. In 1994–95 the Uttar Pradesh government named DAV Muzaffarnagar among the top three aided and government colleges in the state. It is now also supported under the DBT Star College Scheme. For many years the college was affiliated to Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, and some older batches still take practical exams under CCSU. The college now lists Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur, as its university. On the aided side it teaches B.A. and B.Sc., along with law (LLB) and teacher education (B.Ed.), with departments ranging from botany, zoology, statistics and physics to Hindi, history, psychology, drawing and painting, and physical education. The self-financing side covers: BCA, BBA, B.Com, BFA and B.Sc. Biotechnology M.A. in English, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, and Drawing and Painting M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Computer Science LLM, along with M.Ed. and B.El.Ed. in teacher education Admission is merit-based. The college publishes merit lists each year, and seats left after the regular rounds are filled through open merit. The Department of Teacher Education follows NCTE norms for its B.Ed. and related programmes.
