About Dahiwadi College
History and Background
About Dahiwadi College, Satara Dahiwadi College is in Dahiwadi, the headquarters of Man taluka in Satara district, a dry and largely rural part of western Maharashtra. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, the education society founded by Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil under the motto "Education through self-help", started the college in 1965 so that students from poor families in the area could study without leaving the district. It is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The college began with only a B.A., offering English, Marathi, History and Hindi, and at first held classes in the building of its sister school, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya. Economics was added in 1969, Geography in 1973 and Political Science in 1985. Science teaching started in June 1983 with Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, and Commerce followed in 1984. Today the main streams are: B.A. in English, Marathi, Hindi, History, Economics, Geography and Political Science B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology B.Com. Short courses such as MS-CIT in information technology Dahiwadi College is accredited by NAAC with an A++ grade (CGPA 3.60) in its fourth cycle. It is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and its science departments receive support under the DST-FIST scheme of the Government of India. Admission to the first year follows Shivaji University rules and is handled through the online admission process on the college website, which also lists the fee structure. The Rayat network runs dozens of colleges and hostels across Maharashtra, and Dahiwadi College keeps to the society's original aim of bringing degree courses within reach of students in drought-prone villages.
