History and Background
About College of Food Processing Technology & Bio Energy, Anand The College of Food Processing Technology & Bio Energy (FPT & BE) is a constituent college of Anand Agricultural University (AAU) in Anand, Gujarat. AAU itself was created in 2004 under a Gujarat state act, carved out of the old Gujarat Agricultural University. Its work covers education, research and extension in agriculture, horticulture, engineering, processing and home science, with colleges and research stations spread across central Gujarat. The food processing college came later. The Gujarat Department of Agriculture and Cooperation notified it as a full-fledged college in May 2008, and teaching began in the 2008-09 session. The university set it up because the state's growing food industry needed trained technologists and engineers. The courses follow food from farm to factory to consumer: how produce is handled, processed and packaged, how value-added products are made, and how quality is checked along the way. Programmes offered by the college: B.Tech (Food Technology) M.Tech (Food Technology) in Food Processing Technology M.Tech (Food Technology) in Food Process Engineering M.Tech (Food Technology) in Food Safety and Quality Alongside teaching, the college researches agro-processing, food engineering, food quality assurance and bio-energy. It also offers consultancy to industry, government agencies and new entrepreneurs, and runs an Agri and Food Business Incubator for start-ups. AAU's colleges are covered by ICAR accreditation, and the college publishes annual reports and an information brochure for applicants. Admission notices for undergraduate and postgraduate seats come out through Anand Agricultural University. Students also take part in NSS work such as tree planting and cleanliness drives on campus.
