About College of Engineering

History and Background

About College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram The College of Engineering Trivandrum, usually called CET, took its first batch of students on 3 July 1939. That makes it the oldest engineering college in what was then Travancore State. It started as a constituent college of Travancore University with 21 seats each in degree and diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. In 1960 it moved to its present campus in Thiruvananthapuram. Today the Government of Kerala owns the college, and the Department of Technical Education runs it. It is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). It has eight departments offering nine undergraduate programmes, 29 postgraduate programmes, an MBA, an MCA and doctoral research. About 5,000 students study here, taught by around 300 faculty members. All B.Tech programmes are NBA-accredited until December 2028, and 18 M.Tech courses are accredited as well. B.Tech admission is through the KEAM entrance exam and the state allotment process, and B.Arch seats need a NATA score. M.Tech seats are usually given on the basis of GATE. MBA and MCA admissions follow the state entrance routes for those courses. In NIRF 2025, CET was placed in the 101-150 band for engineering and 15th in architecture. Engineering colleges across Kerala also use the college's computing setup. An NVIDIA DGX A100 system installed in April 2024 runs machine learning work for students and researchers from government engineering colleges in the state.
