About CL Baid Metha College of Pharmacy
History and Background
About CL Baid Metha College of Pharmacy, Chennai C.L. Baid Metha College of Pharmacy opened in 1980 as the first self-financing pharmacy college in Tamil Nadu. It was started by the state's chemists and druggists, who formed the Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists Educational Trust, registered on 7 March 1980, to run it. The trust owns the campus at Jyothi Nagar, Thoraipakkam, on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR), along Chennai's IT corridor. Mr Vinod Khanna chaired the trust from 1988 until 2020, after which the board was reconstituted. The college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, and approved by AICTE and the Pharmacy Council of India. It is also ISO 9001:2015 certified. Programmes run at every level of pharmacy education: Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) B.Pharm, including lateral entry for diploma holders Pharm.D M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmacology Ph.D. Teaching is organised into departments of Pharmaceutics with Regulatory Affairs, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacy Practice. The campus has a central instrumentation room, a machine room for formulation work, an animal house, computing labs, a library, a hostel and sports facilities. Faculty publish research and take on consultancy and sponsored projects, and the principal, Dr C.N. Nalini, received the AVRS Women in Science Award in 2026. The college also runs health outreach through the year, with programmes tied to World Kidney Day, World Tuberculosis Day and World Health Day. A placement cell publishes recruiter lists and placement reports. Admissions for D.Pharm, B.Pharm, lateral entry, Pharm.D and M.Pharm open each year through an online application on the college website.
