About Christ College
History and Background
About Christ College, Rajkot Christ College in Rajkot opened in 1998 and is part of Christ Campus, which also runs Christ Institute of Management and Christ Polytechnic Institute. The campus was formally inaugurated in 2001 by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, who later became President of India. The college describes itself as the first multi-faculty, co-educational, English-medium college for arts, science and commerce in the Saurashtra and Kutch region. Christ College is affiliated to Saurashtra University. It was among the youngest colleges to be accredited by NAAC when it went through the process in 2002, and in January 2010 it was re-accredited with a B grade and a CGPA of 2.89. In 2024 the Gujarat State Institutional Rating Framework (GSIRF) gave it a four-star rating with a CGPA of 3.87. Teaching is in English across all courses. Programmes on the course list include: BA in English Language and Literature B.Sc in subjects including Physics and Computer Science B.Com M.Sc in Physics and M.Sc in Information Technology The Department of Physics, for example, started with the college in 1998 and offers both a three-year B.Sc and a two-year M.Sc. Admission to undergraduate courses is based on Class 12 results and follows Saurashtra University rules, with forms and enquiries handled by the campus office. The college runs a long list of clubs, associations and committees, each led by a faculty member, so that students take part in co-curricular work alongside regular classes. Most students come from Rajkot and the wider Saurashtra and Kutch area.
