History and Background
About AISSMS College of Pharmacy, Pune AISSMS College of Pharmacy is on Kennedy Road near the RTO in central Pune, about 200 metres from Pune railway station. It is run by the All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society (AISSMS), which Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur and Madhavrao Scindia of Gwalior founded in 1917. The society's landmark building, whose foundation stone was laid by the Prince of Wales in 1921, still houses the Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military School. The college is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India and affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. It has gone through two cycles of NAAC accreditation. Three programmes are offered: B.Pharm, four years, with 100 seats in the first year and direct second-year entry for diploma holders (10 percent of intake) M.Pharm, two years, with 48 seats across Pharmaceutics (15), Quality Assurance Techniques (15), Pharmaceutical Chemistry (10) and Pharmacology (8) Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences Admission to B.Pharm is through MHT-CET after Class 12, with a minimum of 50 percent marks, followed by the state's CAP rounds. The B.Pharm syllabus follows the PCI pattern, with electives in the seventh and eighth semesters and a month of in-plant training after the second year. Attendance of 75 percent in each subject is required. The college has a training and placement cell that brings pharmaceutical companies to campus for interviews. Hostels for boys and girls are about 5 to 6 km from the college, and a bus runs between the hostel and the campus.
